💁Dried Prawns is quite a famous delicacy amongst fish lovers across the globe. 👉So also in Mangalore where it is usually eaten during the 🌧️Monsoons when fresh fish is unavailable as 🚤🛶boats often do not venture out for fishing into the rough sea. While dried fish has it’s own varieties👈 Chutney at least once during the ☔Monsoons.Dry prawns Chutney tastes heavenly when eaten with Congee Kanji/Rice and this is probably one of the simplest of all meals.But in the olden days, people used to prepare for the Monsoons much in advance. served with this chutney, the combination and taste was simply heavenly
Dried Prawns is a common and much-loved ingredient in a seafood loving coastal town of Mangalore. The most popular way to eat it is to roast it and coarsely grind it along with coconut & spices and serve the chutney along with rice.
💁Ingredients
100gm dried 🦐🍤 prawns
💁For the Marsala
1 cup fresh coconut 🥥grated
8 -10green chillies or👇👇👇 dry red chillies
1 tbsp pepper corn
1/2 tbsp cumin jeera
3 pods raw garlic
1 inch ginger
Handfull ✊ of coriander leaves
🥜 Peanut size tamarind
salt to taste
💁just a little as the prawns 🦐🍤 already has salt in it
1/4 tbsp oil for frying dry prawns 🦐🍤 and chillies
💁Method
Clean & remove the prawns 🦐 head carefully wash & squeeze it dry or place on kitchen towel and drain. Dry roast it for a couple of minutes on a tawa on a slow flame until it lets out a nice aroma Keep aside.
Dry grind the all ingredients along with coconut 💁don’t use water 💧 Do not grind it fine.👈 It should remain be coarsely crushed and not ground.
Take a bowl add dry grind mixture add fried 🦐🍤 prawns.
Remove the chutney in a bowl. Serve With Curd 🍚 Rice .
