

Udupi & Mangalore Style Basale Soppu Saru / Koddel / Malabar Spinach Curry
💁Basale soppu Saru is a famous curry of South Canara. This sambar goes very well with Hot Hot Boiled Rice.. & Neer Dosa. This curry seasoning with garlic which gives good texture and aroma to this Curry.It is rich in vitamins and minerals.
💁Ingredients

1 medium bunches of chopped Basale Malabar spinach
1/4 cup toor dal
1 cup raw papaya big cubes
Small size jaggery💁 optional
Salt to taste
💁For Masala Ingredients
1 cup fresh grated coconut 🥥
8-10 Byadagi red chilli & few 4-5 guntur chillies
1 medium size onion roughly sliced
4-6 garlic clove
Amla size Tamarind
1 -1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
1/4 tbsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
For Tempering
3 tbsp oil
1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
Few curry leaves
1 pinch 🤏 Hing
8 -10 cloves garlic with skin roughly crushed
💁Method
Clean & Wash Basale Malabar spinach roughly chopped them & 1 inch length chop the stems.
In a Pressure cooker along With Basale add toor dal add enough water & cook it for 4-5 whistle Keep aside.
Take a pan dry roast red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, 1 slice onion , 4-5 cloves garlic till onion change colour..prepare the masale in a blender along with fresh grated coconut & tamarind blend to the smooth paste by adding required amount of water keep aside.
In a big vessel add cooked basale and toor dal
also add raw papaya pieces salt and jaggery to it. close the lid and allow to cook raw papaya for 4-5 mins in a medium flame.
Once the raw papaya are cooked . Now add the ground masala and bring to boil.
for 5 mins.
Meanwhile, heat seasoning pan add tbsp of oil and sputter mustard seeds. add the without peel crushed garlic fry it till golden brown now add few curry leaves & hing optional. Immediately pour the tempering on the basale curry. mix it well
