Sweet Pongal
#Pongal which is mainly prepared for breakfast. but the sweet pongal or chakkara pongal is especially prepared during the #Celebration of #Sankranti_Festival and served as #Naivedya_Prasadam in many south indian temples. Basically the festival of pongal or Makara Sankrati is celebrated from january 13th to 16th of every year. the occasion is to celebrate the harvest season and about .Thanks giving to nature by cooking new rice or freshly harvested grains. The word ‘ponga’ basically means overflowing and is referred to overflow cooking style in an earthly pot with wood fire. moreover widely sankranti is celebrated on january 14th, but each day to this 4 day festival has a significance and celebrated with unique recipes. but sakkarai pongal recipe or chakkara pongal is a common recipe prepared every day throughout and is served with other desserts and savouries.
Sakkarai Pongal /Chakkara Pongal
💁👇Ingredient
1cup Raw Rice
3/4 cup moong dal
4 cups water
2 cups grated jaggery
2 – 4 tbsp ghee
1 -1/2 cup grated 🥥 coconut
3 green cardamoms seeds crushed
8 -10 cashew pieces
Few Raisins
1 pinch – pachai karpooram 💁optional
1 pinch 🤏Salt
Banana 🍌
💁👇Method
Heat the cooker and add a tsp of ghee and fry the moong dal directly. Fry for a minute. Add the washed rice, add 4cup of the water and pressure cook over a for 3-4 whistles. Once the pressure is released, open and mix some more just to mash and mix well.
Take a heavy bottom pan Melt the 2 cups of jaggery with about 1/4 cup water over medium heat. Strain the jaggery, if needed.Bring the jaggery mix back to boiling over the stove top and add the grated coconut & cooked rice & Moong dal to it. Add 1 cups of water till all the water evaporates and close the lid . Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes. Add the crushed cardamom and 1 pinch pachai karpooram add the 4 tbsp ghee and 1pinch 🤏salt mix it all in well.
Meanwhile, heat the 2 tbsp ghee in a small pan and fry the cashews ,raisins in it till golden. Mix this into the rice mixture and serve hot .🤗😋😘
